Multnomah County's Chair, Multnomah County Commissioners, Portland's Mayor, Portland City Councilors, SEIU Oregon, Portland for All, ACLU Oregon, and Worth Fighting for St. Johns are calling on the Trump administration to immediately release contingency funds that will keep millions of Americans from hunger, including roughly 136,000 people in Multnomah County alone who rely on federal food assistance. That’s almost 1 in 5 Multnomah County residents.
Regardless of the government shutdown, if this administration fails to act within the next week, they will instead take food from the mouths of children and force a policy of pain and cruelty onto families who depend on SNAP food assistance. This is wholly unacceptable.
The federal administration can immediately act to release these contingency funds at any time — today, even — and spare 136,000 of our neighbors from needless suffering and hunger.
Fund SNAP now. The people of Multnomah County, the City of Portland, and millions of families across the country are counting on it.
