Before you start
A certified copy of your marriage license is a copy that has been stamped and signed by the county clerk. It is issued after your marriage license has been turned back in to the county. The certified document is considered the legal proof of marriage.
The ceremonial copy of the marriage certificate that you get when you pick up your license is not a certified document. The ceremonial copy is not considered legal proof of marriage.
If any of the parties selected a new name to be taken upon marriage, a certified copy can be used to change their name with the DMV and Social Security Administration, etc.
You can order a copy in person or through the mail.
