The Assessment, Recording and Taxation Customer Service Office maintains several types of public records. Most are available either in our office or by request.  

What records can I access?

  • Deeds
  • Mortgages
  • Liens
  • Military Discharges (restricted records, requires request form and identification)
  • Block Books
  • Tax Rolls
  • Tax Bills
  • Certified Property Characteristics
  • Marriage Licenses (issued by Multnomah County)
  • Other Miscellaneous Records

What records are not available through this office?

Can I come in and look at your records?

Yes. Research and view documents in our public research area. If you need help, a clerk is available to assist you.  Our office is located at:

Currently, the following records are available to view on our public terminals:
  • Recorded Documents (1964 - Current)
  • Deed Index (1855 - Current)
  • Marriage Index (1924-1979)
Fees for printing from the public terminals are:
  • Standard Copies: 25 cents per page.
  • Certified Copies: $4 for the first page, 25 cents for each extra page (per document).
We accept cash, checks, certified funds (money order or cashier’s check), and debit or credit cards (fees apply).

What if the document I want isn’t on the public terminal?

If the document you want is not on the public terminal, bring your  Recorded Document Request Form (228.42 KB) to our counter.  

You will need to provide:

  • document type
  • document number (or book and page)
    • If not known, additional information may be required
  • year of recording
  • full name on document

Requests are usually completed and available for pick up or mailed within 72 hours.

Fees for requesting documents at the counter are:
  • Standard Copies: $4 for the first page, 25 cents for each extra page (per document).
  • Certified Copies: $7.75 for the first page, 25 cents for each extra page (per document).
We accept cash, checks, certified funds (money order or cashier’s check), and debit or credit cards (fees apply).

Can I look at these records online?

No. Recorded documents are currently not available outside our office.  You can come into our office and search for records on our terminals.

Can I mail in a request for documents?

Yes.  Fill out a  Recorded Document Request Form (228.42 KB) and mail it to:

How do I get a copy of my military discharge (DD-214)?

If you recorded your DD-214 with Multnomah County, a completed request form and current picture identification are required. If mailing the request, complete the notary part of the request form.

All DD-214's can be requested through the National Archives.

Can I get lien information over the phone?

No. You can search the lien index in our Public Research Area or you can call a title company or attorney for help.

What tax records are available for my property?

Tax Bills (Copies of actual tax statements) 1988 - Current
  • Tax Rolls (Certified tax, value and appraisal information) 1942 - 2010
  • Characteristic Cards (Full appraisal information and values) 1991 - Current
  • Block Books (Name of Owner and Value of property) 1907 - 1942

Are these tax records online?

Some. You can find recent property information by visiting Multnomah County’s property tax website. The website contains recent property values, property characteristics and copies of current fall tax bills. Click on the Guest Login button and enter a property tax account number or the property address.

How do I get older information?

Either mail or email an Assessor Records Request Form (72.26 KB) to:

After we receive your request, we will determine how long it will take to complete the work and any fees that are associated.  We charge $60 per hour for any requests taking more than 15 minutes. We charge the research fee in 15 minute increments, so a request taking a half hour would cost $30.

You must mail in a payment or pay in person before we can complete the request. We are unable to take any payments online or over the phone.

We complete most requests within 72 hours. Some, depending on size and staffing levels, may take longer to complete.

How do I get a copy of a marriage license?

  • Pick up in our office located at: 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd., Suite 175.  We process requests immediately. We accept cash, checks and debit or credit cards. It is $7.75 for the first copy, $4.00 each for any extra copies. OR
  • Mail in the Certified Copy Request Form. Once received, we process requests within 1-2 business days. Payments must be in US dollars.

How old are your marriage records?

We maintain all marriage licenses issued by Multnomah County, going to back to 1855.

What if I want to do research for marriage records?

Our marriage index from 1924 to 1979 is available on our public research terminals in our Public Research Area. For records before 1924, please see our counter staff for assistance.
