After Adding a new dependent, a Change Benefits action will launch, allowing you to enroll or remove them from your benefits.
Scenarios:
If adding a dependent due to a birth:
- Effective date: child’s birthdate.
- Reason:
If adding a due to adoption or placement:
- Effective date: adoption or placement date.
- Reason:
If adding a dependent due to marriage:
- Effective date: date of marriage.
- Reason:
If adding a dependent due to domestic partnership:
- Effective date: date the domestic partnership <<met all criteria,>> plus 6 months.
- Reason:
- If adding a domestic partner, domestic partner’s child or other non-IRS eligible dependent, see the additional financial impact of adding them to medical/dental plans.
If adding a dependent due to a court order:
- Effective date: date of the ruling of order
- Reason:
If removing a dependent due to death:
- Effective date: date of death (and in the date of death field).
- Reason:
If removing a dependent due to a divorce/end of domestic partnership:
- Effective date: date of the divorce/end of domestic partnership.
- Reason:
- You must change the relationship to ex-spouse/ex-domestic partner.
If changing a domestic partner to spouse:
- Effective Date: marriage date
- Reason: Add new dependent: Marriage
- You must change the relationship to spouse.
