Carrie has deep ties to NE Portland and discovered her love for advocacy while volunteering in youth athletics and out-of-school programs. Carrie has experience as a Community Health Worker (CHW), specializing in behavioral health and as a Mental Health First Aid Instructor. Additionally, she has facilitated culturally specific engagement efforts and conducted outreach related to chronic diseases prevention including tobacco cessation and health education in order to increase health literacy and drive better outcomes in underserved communities.
As a Community Health Specialist with REACH, Carrie helps to plan and implement efforts to eliminate chronic diseases through referrals to existing community health resources. She also supports the Healthy Heart Ambassador program and leads classes in the National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) and other engagement opportunities to promote health and wellness. She is excited to continue connecting with the Black and African communities in Multnomah County to promote better health, support economic development and provide healthy cultural meals.
