Black Earth Day Stroll

April 26, 10:15 AM to 2:00 PM from Verdell Burdine Ruthford Park 16555 SE Mill St, Portland, OR 97233. This Black Earth Day Stroll brings together community leaders Kalimah Abioto (Studio Abioto), Pamela Slaughter (People of Color Outdoors), and the founding brothers of Leaders Become Legends, who will share their stories about our connectivity to trees and the natural world around us. Meet science experts Portland and Gresham Urban Forestry, and Friends of Trees, who will be there to share their savvy and answer questions about their work with the trees in our lives. We’ll break bread at Vance Park with a healthful meal, before returning to Verdell Verdine Ruthford Park. Learn more about the Black Earth Day Stroll and register.

Wellness Class through Miracles Club

May 27 to July 1, virtual through Zoom. This six-week, self-management course is designed for adults with prediabetes, diabetes, chronic conditions and those that just want to get healthier. The course includes expert-guided 2.5-hour sessions with nutrition information and group fitness opportunities within a judgement-free zone. Participants that complete four classes will receive a $25 exercise pass and a free book (Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions). June 19, 12:00 to 6:00 PM at1400 SE 182nd Ave 97233. Join us at Vance Park once again for and RBJ x Freedom Day! As usual, meals, games, activities, and entertainment will be provided by Multnomah County programs, our partners and vendors. Submit a request to table at Juneteenth Reclaiming Black Joy 2025.

East Portland Sunday Parkways by Portland Parks 

July 27, 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Celebrate open streets in a community, family-friendly setting! Bike, walk and mingle and enjoy! The East Portland 4.5-mile down-and-back route will feature Gateway Discovery Park, Ventura Park, Lincoln Park, and reintroducing Parklane Park! Start anywhere on the route and bike, walk, or roll as you explore the four featured parks. Each park will feature local entertainment, community booths, and vendors. 4th Annual Breastfeeding & Maternal Health Townhall

August 7, 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM at Lakeside Gardens Lakeside Gardens 16211 SE Foster Rd 97236 (Registration required). County programs WIC, REACH, and HBI are hosting the 4th Annual Breastfeeding Townhall, this time with an emphasis on maternal mental health. Lactation expert Patrícia Soriano Guzmán will discuss how to support breastfeeding people among diverse communities. While the event is geared toward breastfeeding (and would-be) parents, lactation professionals, anyone who may be supporting a breastfeeding person, and those interested in the topic are welcome. This event is free and refreshments will be provided. The event is limited to 200 attendees with less than 20 spots left. Please register to attend.

Soul Stroll Fundraiser by Miracles Club

August 16, 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Dawson Park N Stanton Street and Williams Ave 97227. Soul Stroll is an annual event dedicated to promoting health awareness within the African American community. While this fundraiser costs $20 to participate (t-shirt included with registration), free spots are available on a financial-need basis. REACH is also providing transportation for this event for any participants. Limited need-based and transport spots available.

4th Annual In My Shoes 5K/3K Walk by Word Is Bond

August 30, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 1661 N Wheeler Ave 97227. Join an interactive event centered around promoting healthy habits, celebrating history, and community safety. Visit the event page for more details. This event is free.

A Taste of African Heritage Class

September 15, 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Come Thru Market 831 SE Salmon St 97214. Join REACH, Ecotrust and Black Food Sovereignty for a special, one-day ToAH event! Back by popular demand, you'll get to cook and eat delicious and nutritious recipes for free. Registration information coming soon.

MLK Dream Run by the Soul District Business Association

September 20 and 21, 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Portland Community College Cascade 705 N Killingsworth St 97217. Support North Portland and the Soul Business District by joining the annual MLK Dream Run. Choose the 5K, 10K, or 15K. The kids race is free. Sign up early and get help training for your distance. Visit the website for more information about this fundraiser and how to participate.
