FMLA: Federal Family and Medical Leave Act
Under Federal Law, employees may be eligible for up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave a year to care for a spouse, child or parent with a serious health condition or for the employee's own serious health condition. This can also include parental bonding time. Military Family Leave is also available. For any period the employee is on FMLA, the County will continue the employee's medical and dental coverage, regardless of paid status. Employees may be required to provide 30 days of advance notice of leave and medical certification. Upon return from leave, most employees will be restored to their original or equivalent positions.
OFLA: Oregon Family Leave Act
Under Oregon law, employees may be receive up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave to care for their own serious health condition, or for an eligible family member who has a serious health condition. Eligible family members include parent, child, spouse, parent-in-law and also your grandparent and grandchild. Oregon also provides protected leave to care for your same gender domestic partner and the parent or child of your same gender domestic partner. This can also include parental bonding time. Oregon Military Family Leave is also available. NOTE: Many times the 12 weeks of FMLA and the 12 weeks of OFLA will be used at the same time (concurrently).

Paid Leave Oregon is a new, mandatory, statewide insurance program that allows individuals to take paid time off for many of life’s most important moments that impact our families and our health and safety. You will need to apply directly with PLO for paid leave benefits.
