Become a Personal Support Worker (PSW)

Personal Support Workers (PSWs) provide attendant care and relief care to Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities clients in their home. PSWs assist clients with personal care, household tasks and being active in the community by providing additional support and in some cases transportation. 

  • Most PSWs know the individual they want to work with. Connections can also be made through the Carina registry.
  • PSWs must have an approved criminal history background check that is renewed every 2 years.
  • Clients and families are registered as an Employer of Record (EOR) and utilize a fiscal intermediary for payment.

PSW's are required to complete new worker orientation and training before being assigned a Medicaid Provider ID number and authorized to work by the Oregon Department of Human Services. Current Personal Support Worker Renewal Information 

1. Follow the steps in the Renewing PSW Quick Reference

2. Complete a PSW Provider Enrollment Application and Agreement (PEAA) form for renewal.

Multnomah County offers PSW's the following time entry and technical assistance resources:

  • Provider Payment Support Line: 503-988-9485 answered live by Staff Tues & Thu 9am-12pm & 1pm-4pm
  • PSW Drop In Hours: Most Wednesdays from 1pm-4pm at Multnomah County East 600 NE 8th St. Gresham, OR 97030

    Drop in coverage will NOT be offered on 11/11/26, 11/25/26, 12/23/26
