Multnomah County, Ore. (Feb. 10, 2025) — The next election in Multnomah County is the May 20, 2025, Special District Election. This election includes contests for local school district boards, community college district boards, the Multnomah County Education Service District board, rural fire district boards, the Urban Flood Safety and Water Quality District board, water district boards, and any local ballot measures.
The candidate filing window for all Special District Election candidates is now open — would-be candidates have more than a month, until 5 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2025, to file.
If you are interested in running for office, you can find more information online at multnomahvotes.gov. You can also call Multnomah County Elections at 503-988-VOTE (8683) or email elections@multco.us. Many voter services can also be completed online.
Ballots will be mailed to all registered Multnomah County voters beginning Wednesday, April 30, 2025. Make sure you are registered to vote — with your registration up to date — so you can receive your ballot as soon as possible.

In advance of the May 20 Election Day deadline, Multnomah County Elections is urging voters: Let’s Make a Plan to VOTE! The action-focused checklist walks voters through the five steps needed to ensure their vote is counted:
- Register to VOTE.
- Get your ballot.
- VOTE your ballot.
- Return your ballot.
- Have a VOICE and make a difference.
First: Register to VOTE — the voter registration deadline is April 29
The voter registration deadline for this election is Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Register to vote online at oregonvotes.gov/register.
Make sure to update your voter registration anytime you move, change your name, or want to change your party affiliation. Now is the time to check that your voter registration has your current residence and mailing address.
Then, sign up for the free Track Your Ballot service after you check your registration!
Get your ballot.
You will receive your ballot in the mail beginning April 30. If you have not received your ballot by May 8, take action by calling Multnomah County Elections at 503-988-VOTE (8683) for a replacement ballot. If you are going to be away from home for this election you can sign up to vote absentee, or vote early, starting Monday, April 7.
VOTE your ballot
Remember to sign your ballot return envelope. Your signature is your identification.
Every signature on every ballot is examined to make sure it matches the signature on the voter’s registration.
If you forget to sign, or if your signature does not match the signature on your voter registration record, Multnomah County Elections will send you a letter so that you can take action and we can count your vote. You will also be contacted through the Track Your Ballot service if you signed up for it.
Return your ballot
You have two choices in returning your ballot. Vote early and return your ballot by mail. No stamp needed! Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, May 20, and arrive within seven days of Election Day, to be counted.
You can also return your ballot to an Official Ballot Drop Site. Return your ballot to any 24-hour Official Ballot Drop Box in the state or to any 24-hour Multnomah County Library Drop Site. All Multnomah County Official Ballot Drop Sites are listed at multco.us/dropsites. Ballots must be dropped off by 8 p.m. on Election Night, May 20. Official Ballot Drop Sites will also be listed in the Voters' Pamphlet.
