NEWS RELEASE: The Nov. 4, 2025, Special Election is coming up!
No candidate contests will be on the November 2025 ballot; the voter registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025.
Multnomah County, Ore. (Oct. 1, 2025) — The next election in Multnomah County is the Nov. 4, 2025, Special Election. This election includes just two ballot measures: one for the City of Portland and one for the Lake Oswego School District.
About 466,000 voters who are registered in the City of Portland and Lake Oswego School District will receive a ballot for this election. To learn more about this election, visit: multnomahvotes.gov.
It's important to make sure that your voter registration is accurate and up-to-date. Remember to update your voter registration anytime you move, change your name, or want to change your party affiliation.
The voter registration deadline for the Nov. 4 election is Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025. Register to vote online at: oregonvotes.gov/register. Voters can check or update their registration online at: oregonvotes.gov/myvote. Voters can also register in person at the Multnomah County Duniway-Lovejoy Elections Building, at 1040 S.E. Morrison St., Portland, during office hours.
Voting Center Express opens in Gresham starting October 20, 2025
The Voting Center Express will be available again for the Nov. 4, 2025, Special Election. Located at 600 N.E. 8th St. in downtown Gresham, the Voting Center Express will be open Oct. 20, 2025, through Election Day.

Ballots will be mailed to voters starting Wednesday, Oct. 15. To be counted, ballots must be postmarked no later than Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, or received at an Official Ballot Drop Site by 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Absentee ballot information
Voters who will be away from home on or near Election Day should ask to have an absentee ballot mailed to their temporary address.
Voters can also request a ballot in person at the Multnomah County Duniway-Lovejoy Elections Building.
Voters who ask for an absentee ballot must complete an Absentee Ballot Request Application, available at: multco.us/absentee, alongside additional information. Voters can also email: elections@multco.us or call (503) 988-VOTE (8683) for assistance.

Multnomah County voters can sign up for text, email or voice alerts that notify them when their ballots are in the mail and then later when their voted ballots have been received. Candidate filing is open for the May 19, 2026, Primary Election
The Candidate and Precinct Committeeperson filing periods for the upcoming May 19, 2026, Primary Election are open as of Sept. 11, 2025.
Local candidate positions scheduled to be on the May 19 ballot:
Metro
- Auditor
- Council President
- Councilors for Districts 1, 2 and 4
The filing deadlines for Metro candidates are:
- 5 p.m. March 3, 2026, for elected incumbent candidates.
- 5 p.m. March 10, 2026, for non-incumbent (new) and appointed incumbent candidates.
The filing deadline for Precinct Committeeperson candidates is 8 p.m. May 19, 2026.
The deadline to file ballot measures for the May 2026 election is March 19, 2026. A measure for a Special District or county must file a notice of ballot title by Feb. 27, 2026.
Candidate contests for Multnomah County and City of Portland elected offices will not appear on the May 2026 ballot. They will next appear on the Nov. 3, 2026, ballot — when County voters will join City of Portland voters in using Ranked Choice Voting to select candidates.
