Filing Candidacy for City Office

City offices are typically scheduled to be on the November General Election ballot (even-numbered years). The candidate who receives the majority of the votes in a contest is elected.

Filing a Candidate Statement for the Voters' Pamphlet

Candidates for city offices file Voters' Pamphlet Candidate Statements with the county elections office.

Each county produces its own Voters' Pamphlet. If an office is elected by voters in more than one county, a separate Voters’ Pamphlet filing and fee must be submitted to each county where the statement is to be printed. 

  • The City of Portland has voters registered in Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington counties

  • The City of Lake Oswego has voters registered in Clackamas, Multnomah, and (a very small number in) Washington counties
