If the actual square feet of a property (land or structure) is incorrect as of the January 1 assessment date of a tax year, the Real Market Value and Maximum Assessed value might be adjusted to reflect the correction; this may result in reduced property taxes.
Depending on the date of application and other factors, a correction might be made for the current tax year and up to five prior tax years.
A correction of the type or category of square feet cannot be accomplished via this application. For example, if your unfinished basement is listed as a finished basement, but the square feet are correct, this application cannot help you; it would be better to speak with someone in the appraisal group.
There are deadlines that determine for which tax years we can apply changes, so please submit the application as soon as you can to ensure it is filed timely.
