Dear Voter:

Oregon voters face critical challenges this November. One bears directly on the education of our children; another is vital to our children's safety.

Taking a Hatchet to Education

I am talking about initiative measures that wield an extremely harsh ax to the state budget with our children suffering the most because of severe cuts in K-12 and higher education.

Vote for our children by opposing Measures 8, 88, 91 and 93. When Oregon needs to devote more resources to providing quality education, these measures diminish the funds we have available at the state and local level to improve education and vital programs for our children.

Measure 91 alone would take millions of dollars out of education, mostly by providing a tax break for the rich. Half of all Oregonians would get no tax cut at all. A family of four with income of $40,000 annually would get a tax cut of $20 per year, while

families earning $200,000 would get a break of nearly $4,000.
Join me in voting against Measures 8, 88, 91 and 93 so we can continue to give our children opportunities for success through quality education.

Protecting Our Children from Gun Violence

Measure 5 requires background checks at gun shows. This simple initiative closes a gaping loophole in existing law. Closing the loophole will keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. As a result, our children will be safer.

Existing law requires background checks when guns are purchased at gunstores. This measure extends the requirement to gunshows where thousands of guns are purchased each year without background checks.

Join me in voting for Measure 5 to close the gun show loophole.
