Education in a free society is essential to our freedom here in the United States of America. Portland Community College has a great deal of opportunity to influence “an upright and desirable citizenry”.
The American’s Creed by William Tyler Page was adopted by an Act of Congress, April 6, 1918. It partially states: “I believe in the United States of America, as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states. I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.”
MORE POLICE NEEDED. WEIDLICH believes we need more money to increase protection and hire more well-trained and highly qualified officers! All citizens have the Constitutional right to be secure in their own residence. Portland cannot find enough police officers to fill their ranks. Jr. College degree in law enforcement should be fine.
MOTHERS FOR CHILDREN. As President, WEIDLICH supports equal education for all. This means helping families, communities and educators work together to help our youth succeed. Their individual talents need to be encouraged and valued. She takes her stand on the Oregon law 336.067, which reads: “In public schools special emphasis shall be given to instruction in a) Honesty, morality, courtesy, obedience to law, respect for parents and the home, the dignity and necessity of honest labor, and other lessons which tend to promote an upright and desirable citizenry.”
