Gordon Hovies has been a resident of the area served by the TVF&R for over 35 years and a graduate of the Tigard public school system. He’s made countless community contributions, and shares your concerns about TVF&R. Gordon is a Lieutenant with 23 years fire service experience. With this knowledge, experience and commitment, Gordon will bring a new perspective to help improve existing objectives that already is provided by TVF&R with new ideas to better extend the quality of service to the citizens.
As a fire board member Gordon will work diligently to ensure that Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue:
- Will always promote financial responsibility and prudence - It’s YOUR tax dollar!
- Will continue to improve staffing efficiency to ensure adequate personnel at emergencies
- Will continue to keep up with the latest trends in fire fighting technology and training
- Will update the master plan to ensure that we are continuing to meet communities needs
As A Private Citizen, I’ve fought to make my voice heard, And it has been. Here’s a list of my recommendations that have been implemented:
- Better Staffing of Fire Apparatus
- Improve Station location and response times
- Work for Supplemental funding for the budget because of Measure 50
- Continue Consolidation and Coordination with other Fire Departments and Municipal entities

Bob Wyffels lead the way in developing and annually upgrading the “Strategic Plan.” In 1999 TVF&R was selected “Best Fire District in the World” for Customer Service. TVF&R became the 28th department in the world earning accreditation by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International in 2000.
