What We Do
Multnomah County partners with Highland Haven and Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon to expand nutrition policies and increase healthy living awareness in churches, mosques and other faith settings.
We work with our faith partners to change eating habits within the congregations and educate members on the consequences of tobacco addiction. All REACH faith partners commit to create or expand their policies to reflect better health practices, such as always having water available and designating smoking areas away from entrances. Our goal is to make healthy choices the default choice, and in order to do that we need to make healthy living as accessible on a daily basis as possible.
Where We Work
Many spiritual leaders in our community share the same goal of making healthy living as accessible as possible, especially within the African-American/Black communities of Multnomah County. So we've taken this opportunity to work alongside community leaders to expand nutrition policies within faith settings.
In the Portland-metro area, the Black population is rapidly decreasing; however places of worship remain to keep Black membership. Between our partners, we've contracted with 10 faith settings across the area, and you can learn more about their work below.
