Tholanda Newborne is a second generation Oregonian and former educator with a passion for connecting families to essential resources that stabilize lives, empower families and inspire civic independence.
A graduate of Portland State University, Tholanda has served in a number of positions for community-based organizations and nonprofits. She worked as an educator for the nonprofit Friendly house before solely dedicating her time to her daughter’s online education during the COVID-19 pandemic. After the return to in-person activities, Tholanda trained as a Lifestyle Coach with the National Diabetes Prevention Program and joined REACH as a community health specialist serving the Black & African communities of Multnomah County.
Aside from being a solo mother, one of her greatest accomplishments is becoming the first person in her family to receive a bachelor’s degree. In her spare time she enjoys long walks along the waterfront, learning new things, and caring for her daughter.
