REACH works with local organization Play Grow Learn (PGL) to promote community health by increasing healthy food access through farm-to-market programs. With support from REACH, PGL hosts a BIPOC farmers and vendors market and runs a community supported agriculture program.
Community Supported Agriculture
Community supported agriculture (CSA) is a system where buyers pledge to directly support local farmers before the growing season. This agreement provides the community with a trusted source of fresh food and helps lessen the financial risk for farmers and growers by guaranteeing buyers.
REACH and PGL organize a unique, free CSA program providing fruits and vegetables for hundreds of families every year. The produce is sourced from Sufiya Farm, Asian Community Farmers, and PGL’s own farm.
While these CSA spots are need based and fill up quickly, people can still support local farmers and buy produce by coming to the REACHing Us People’s Market.
REACHing US People's Market
Sunday from June 22 through November 2, 1:00 to 5:00 PM at the East County Courthouse lot 18480 SE Stark St 97233
With support from Multnomah County, Play Grow Learn runs the REACHing Us People's market. This community market hosts over 25 local BIPOC growers and business owners selling fresh produce, honey, clothes, jewelry, food, and more. Community members can also learn about services and programs available to them.
The market accepts SNAP, Wallace tokens, and double-up bucks and has a "match your money" program. Shoppers can double their earning power for any produce or market goods up to $20. For example, a shopper that brings $10 will get an additional $10 to spend at the market.
