Mikayla earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Exercise Sports Science from Austin College. She was a NCAA division III college student-athlete on the Women’s Basketball team that provided her with effective leadership and relationship building skills. During her collegiate career she assisted social psychology professors in scholarly published ethnic, religious and sexual minorities’ research and statistical data analysis research. She has recently earned her Master's in Holistic Nutrition from the National University of Natural Medicine with intent to help educate all on the importance of healthy lifestyle choices.
During her graduate program, Mikayla interned for Human Solutions Oregon, where she assisted in providing culturally appropriate USDA Food Bank boxes, mobile farmer’s market, food contracts and outreaches to community properties and shelters. She organized nutrition & health education courses as well as kitchen menu planning. During her time with Human Solutions she became passionate to work in public health after addressing disparities seen in the African/African-American population.
Mikayla loves cooking & meal prepping for friends and family. She teaches cooking courses through the FAME (Food As Medicine Everyday) program at the National university of Natural Medicine. She is a certified personal trainer and enjoys working out, health podcasts & traveling. She loves basketball and to cheer on the Portland Trail Blazers!
Through her position as the Nutrition Promotion Program Specialist, she is eager to work with the REACH team to improve the overall health and wellness of our community.
