Construction Update: Excavation for courthouse foundation begins

April 14, 2017
A conveyor belt will be installed to help remove soil from the Central Courthouse site.
Earth removal is in progress at the Central Courthouse site as Hoffman Construction excavates the site in preparation for drilling foundation shafts this spring.  A conveyor belt system will be installed to speed the removal of dirt from the site.  It will be excavated to a depth of 5 to 20 feet, depending on the slope of the block.  The contractor is also installing shoring walls around the perimeter of the site. The walls are made of steel shoring piles with wood lagging between them.  A drill rig is installing steel tiebacks to support the walls. Installation of a construction crane is planned in late June, after a support pad is built.
