Business Systems Analyst Series Positions in this series provide complex system design, development, configuration, implementation and analysis functions in Information Technology or in a role supporting countywide Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.

Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Provide consultation, technical and analytical duties relating to the operation, maintenance and enhancement of systems; provide expertise in the business functions and processes of specific functional areas; work with process owners, super users and end-users in identifying, analyzing and resolving business process or configuration problems.
  • Perform systems analysis duties; provide expertise in the design, development and implementation of system modifications, process improvements and enhancements; communicate changes and new processes; provide technical expertise to clients to ensure design requirements reflect the business process needs; monitor continuing effectiveness of solutions.
  • Develop business cases, project plans, requirement definitions, business process analysis, user acceptance test plans and execute implementation.
  • Configure, test and manage systems; include performing periodic system upgrades; coordinate with IT staff, consultants, vendors, business process owners, end-users and management.
  • Collaborate with customers to coordinate and review business process fixes and determine the impact on production processes; maintain a system to track problems, issues and resolutions; train end-users on functions.
  • In addition to the above duties, the senior level will:  provide project management duties on complex, multi-faceted system projects; may lead the work of staff, consultants, vendors and others; escalate problems and issues to vendors that cannot be handled internally and ensure timely resolution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Perform the full range of duties, working independently, applying well developed subject knowledge, and exercising judgment and initiative.
  • Receive occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise.
  • Fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit.
  • Work is reviewed based on compliance, appropriateness, and effectiveness in meeting goals and deadlines.
  • Receive direction from manager or staff.
  • For use in IT and in departments with a related business need, working in partnership with IT. In departments, incumbents support a countywide ERP system(s) that is governed by IT.

Business Systems Analyst Senior

  • Advanced level
  • Professional
  • Perform the most difficult assignments requiring a higher level of responsibility, applying advanced subject knowledge, and exercising significant independent judgment and initiative.
  • Receive work assignments in terms of objectives, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Work is reviewed for technical accuracy, compliance to program objectives, and overall results.
  • Receive direction from manager or staff.
  • May exercise technical and functional supervision over staff.
  • For use in IT and in departments with a related business need, working in partnership with IT. In departments, incumbents support a countywide ERP system(s) that is governed by IT.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Business Systems Analyst

Training and experience for journey level, professional classifications are typically equivalent to a bachelor's degree and one (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 5-8 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Business Systems Analyst Senior

Training and experience for advanced level, professional classifications are typically equivalent to a bachelor's degree and three (3) to six (6) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 7-10 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
