Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Administer standardized adaptive behavior assessments; assess, develop, and integrate care plans for complex and difficult cases; consult and educate the care team, family members, case managers, and outside agencies regarding complex service systems such as mental health, medical, and legal.
  • Provide direct assessment and intervention to individuals impacted by physical, developmental, and mental illnesses including threatening or suicidal clients; assess levels of suicide risk, cognitive functioning, and other factors.
  • Determine the need for comprehensive neuropsychological, psychological, psychiatric, psycho-diagnostic, or clinical case consultations with professionals; apply and interpret assessment tools including the Saint Louis University Mental Status Examination (SLUMS), the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Depression Scale, and others.
  • Provide lead direction of work activities within Adult Protective Services (APS) or for a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT); prioritize and coordinate work assignments; review work for accuracy and content; evaluate projects, activities, and processes; monitor work performed to meet agreed upon goals and objectives.
  • Conduct psycho-social needs assessments and provide recommendations and decisions on issues including crisis intervention for potentially life threatening behaviors; advocate for clients with providers, family members, law enforcement, and others; determine the victim's mental and emotional capacity for decision making.
  • Apply complex rules and guidelines to minimize county risk exposure; facilitate high-conflict meetings with family members, police, health care providers, and agencies; provide recommendations or input on cases regarding guardianship, conservatorship, and other civil rights issues; identify problems and develop action plans and treatment strategies.
  • Conduct interviews and field investigations with victims, suspects, perpetrators, staff, family members, health care providers, and other witnesses regarding abuse, neglect, exploitation, sexual abuse, and suspicious deaths; document and evaluate evidence; assess level of danger and risk for clients; recognize signs of domestic violence and follow reporting requirements.
  • Provide assistance and consultation to other departments and outside agencies; provide training in community or business organizations; serve as coordinator for protective services response team; contact outside agencies such as the police, Oregon State Board of Nursing, client care monitoring unit, Medicaid fraud, and others for assistance, investigation, or follow-up.
  • May initiate and assist with restraining orders, second-party mental health petitions, revocation of Power of Attorney, and guardianship or conservatorship; testify in court proceedings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Clinical Services Specialist

Training and experience for this journey level, professional classifications are a master's degree and one (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. 

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.

REQUIRED TRAINING, LICENSES, AND/OR CERTIFICATES:

  • Some positions may require licensure as a Clinical Social Worker at the time of hire.
