Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Assign clients to appropriate agency based on required level of supervision; pick up clients at designated sites and transport to the project site; coordinate work with community partners; supervise work site tasks according to expected timelines and standards; ensure contract and nonprofit sites are satisfied with completed work.
  • Conduct orientation covering client issues, program overview, daily schedules, injury and illness procedures, discipline and warning system, returns and terminations, drug policy, urinalysis and search procedures, personal conduct policy, completion of required paperwork, and evaluation.
  • Perform limited counseling to clients regarding personal problems, employment issues, and probation questions; act as mentor and trainer in providing rehabilitation by developing work skills; develop and support individual and team skills, rapport, and motivation for offender work crews referred by court order, parole and probation officers, or juvenile court counselors.
  • Demonstrate correct work methods and procedures; provide instruction regarding safety practices and guidelines; provide easily understood instruction to English as second language (ESL) offenders; oversee discipline resulting from reprimands; coordinate crew supervision with other counties; provide first aid and CPR as medically necessary.
  • Initiate, complete, and maintain paperwork and data entry, including hours worked, notes on individual offenders, correspondence to criminal justice personnel, and discipline, incident, injury, and other reports; administer written reprimands; document issues and behaviors to parole and probation officers or supervisor.
  • Control and maintain equipment inventories; track maintenance schedule for crew vehicle and perform minor maintenance.
  • When assigned to Juvenile and Youth functional areas, duties include: train and provide program direction to on-call crew leaders; address expectations of juvenile and youth crew members with family members or guardians; supervise crew at community garden sites, including planting, rototilling, weeding, and transporting produce to the food bank.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Community Works Leader

Training and experience for journey level, technical classifications are typically equivalent to an associate's degree and one (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 3-6 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.

REQUIRED TRAINING, LICENSES, AND/OR CERTIFICATES:

  • CPR and First Aid Certification is required.
