Job description
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
- Advise county elected officials and management on various civil law cases, matters and issues; perform legal research and analysis; prepare legal opinions, interpretations and recommended courses of action; prepare cases for litigation; draft, review and approve various legal documents; appear in court and before administrative boards.
- Provide day-to-day supervision in a practice area of the County Attorney's Office operations; plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of a diverse workforce; develop and revise work processes; establish work schedules; provide or coordinate staff training; manage performance and work with staff to correct deficiencies; monitor work performed to meet agreed upon goals and objectives.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; evaluate operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; recommend improvements and modifications; recommend and implement policies and procedures; assist in the development and administration of the budget; participate in forecasting additional funds for staffing and resources; prepare various reports on operations and activities.
- Provide expert guidance to other departments, the general public, and/or outside agencies; represent the county to the public, elected officials, other agencies, governments, and organizations s; respond and resolve confidential and sensitive inquiries; investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions as necessary; act in the County Attorney's place in their absence.
- Supervise and coordinate claim investigations; monitor responses; assign workload for claim defense; evaluate and approve settlements.
- Analyze and review federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures in order to ensure compliance; conduct analysis and interpret current and proposed legislation; formulate and implement recommendations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.
Deputy County Attorney
Training and experience for this advanced level, professional classification is a current member of the State of Oregon Bar Association in good standing and three (3) to six (6) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
