This is a standalone job profile and is not part of a series. Positions in this job profile provide nutritional consultations and education services to high-risk WIC (Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children) individuals and families.

Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Provide nutritional counseling services to high-risk individuals and families; assess nutritional medical needs and plan appropriate diet based upon assessment of dietary, medical, and lifestyle factors.
  • Identify high-risk clients needing nutritional case management to ensure continuity of care; provide medical nutrition therapy for clients at nutritional risk in accordance with American Dietetic Association guidelines; consult with providers to ensure accurate client care plans; provide WIC program services at community sites; arrange home visits for medically fragile patients.
  • Provide breastfeeding information and individualized education and support for high-risk mothers and infants; evaluate need for medical infant formula; assess need and refer clients for medical, NICU, feeding clinic, and community social services; monitor progress and assess ongoing needs.
  • Assist in planning and conducting of nutrition-related studies and obtain data on the relationship of dietary factors to health and disease; maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Respond to and resolve confidential and sensitive inquiries; provide expert guidance to other staff, the general public and/or outside agencies; investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions as necessary; act as representative on committees, interagency task forces, special projects, and other community outreach activities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Receive direction from manager or staff.
  • Exercise functional and technical supervision over staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Dietitian (Nutritionist)

Training and experience for journey level, professional classifications are typically equivalent to a bachelor's degree and one (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 5-8 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.

REQUIRED TRAINING, LICENSES, AND/OR CERTIFICATES:

  • Licensed as a Registered Dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • CPR certification is required.
