This is a standalone job profile and is not part of a series. Positions in this job profile perform technical duties managing inmate funds and property, laundry, inmate commissary, and warehouse operations in the Sheriff’s Office.

Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Process inmate requests for commissary items and authorized medical supplies; fill and sort orders and maintain accounts; order, receive, stock, and maintain commissary supplies; review vendor prices and obtain bids; research new products; recommend resale prices to supervisor; stock US postal products; conduct inventory.  
  • Research and compile information for the proper use of equipment; determine how equipment can be assembled or disassembled and if equipment can be used as weapons or if parts are missing; advise corrections staff on unusual patterns in use or wear of equipment; clean, sterilize, and maintain work sites and secure storage areas.
  • Order, stock, and receive supplies; arrange deliveries and stock supplies within secured facilities; drive, load, and unload delivery vehicles; prepare paper and maintain materials control; monitor back orders; rotate stock and determine reorder points; track unused inventory and return excess purchases; submit monthly petty cash reports; ensure use of material labels and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS); dilute full strength solutions.
  • Maintain vehicles per fleet policy; perform routine maintenance and repairs; install shelves and move furniture and other items; may perform minor carpentry or electrical work.
  • Receive, document, store, dispose, and release inmate property, clothing, and funds; store and dispose of illegal items; count monies surrendered; open account and disburse funds; maintain property ledger and make corrections as needed; obtain appropriate signatures; process and record bail funds and other monies for inmate releases; research and reconcile claims for lost property.
  • Provide daily oversight of laundry facility; plan, schedule, and direct inmate crew; develop, coordinate, and deliver training on safe operation and use of appliances and equipment; coordinate repair and preventative maintenance of equipment and systems with facilities and vendors; monitor washing machine liquid chemical injection system and coordinate service with vendor; establish purchasing standards for equipment and coordinate all purchases with supervisor; coordinate delivery of laundry drop off and pick up to ensure adequate supply at each location.
  • Order and stamp new inmate clothing, linen, blankets, and shows; arrange for disposal or donation of non-serviceable items; issue clothing for inmate work and other crews; maintain and organize inventory.    
  • Provide support to management in recommending and implementing operating procedures, rules, and regulations; analyze, interpret, and apply federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures in order to ensure compliance for safety, security, confidentiality, and documentation; request inmates be disciplined or transferred from work crews based on certain circumstances; ensure confidentiality of inmates.
  • Provide assistance to law enforcement and corrections staff, judges, attorneys, departments, other agencies, and inmates and their families; provide information regarding policies, guidelines, and procedures; refer to appropriate personnel as needed; prepare correspondence, reports, memoranda, or incident reports; develop and revise forms and reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Equipment and Property Technician

Training and experience for this journey level, technical classification is typically equivalent to an associate's degree and up to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 2-6 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
