Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Serve as the designee for the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS); perform screening assessment and initiate immediate health and safety response; evaluate the need for and conduct field abuse and neglect investigations on behalf of clients whose health or safety may be at risk; assess victim, conduct interviews, collect documentation and related information for investigation; complete written reports to ensure investigations meet Oregon Administrative Rules criteria.
  • Collect program data and organize, analyze, and utilize findings to initiate, implement, and make recommendations for the health, safety, and welfare of clients; conduct in-depth interviews with parties associated with clients to collect information in accordance with county, State, Federal, and DHS laws and regulations.
  • Analyze complex client cases and develop and implement protective service actions; identify legal issues of cases; determine jurisdiction responsibility; involve law enforcement to pursue prosecution and enhance victim safety, which may include initiation of relocating alleged victims as appropriate.
  • Complete comprehensive written reports by summarizing evidence obtained and reviewed and justifying and documenting investigative findings and actions taken that may be used in hearings or in conjunction with criminal charges filed.
  • Participate in the development of information resources; provide abuse referrals and protective service and investigation training to staff and contracted teams and agencies; coordinate with outside law enforcement agencies and other community partners; perform death reviews as designated in applicable OARs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Human Services Investigator

Training and experience for journey level, professional classifications are typically equivalent to a bachelor's degree and one (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.  (Equivalency 5-8 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and /or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
