Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Research criminal information; compile data from various law enforcement databases, the DMV, social media, and other sources to build cases, identify criminal patterns, and assist officers and detectives with various investigations research.
  • Receive and process complaints concerning suspected drug houses or other illegal activity; research, validate, and forward relevant information to unit and patrol deputies.
  • Process information supplied by deputies concerning subjects under investigation; coordinate information flow between Sheriff's Office and other agencies; check subject’s warrant status and parole and probation restrictions and inform deputy for case/search warrant preparation.
  • Order mug pictures and photo montages of targeted suspects from local or other law enforcement agencies; enter confidential files and organize reports and evidence in data systems; maintain and provide security of files.
  • Review bank statements and assets and identify unusual expenditures and behaviors; provide findings to detectives and District Attorney; contact other law enforcement agencies; assist in arranging appointments; prepare and ensure proper coding of informant payments, overtime expenditure reports, federal reimbursement forms, payroll forms, and other related documents; order supplies.
  • Prepare and maintain various statistical reports and logs and track cases; develop, revise, and train on unit forms and procedures; generate, issue, and respond to correspondence; maintain phone lists and emergency call out list; monitor, respond, and relay sensitive information via police radio to deputies in the field; contact officers for critical information or call out emergencies.

  • Receive general supervision from manager or staff.
  • May exercise technical and functional supervision over staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Investigative Support Specialist

Training and experience for journey level, administrative support classifications are typically equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and one (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 1-4 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
