Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Prepare and clean work areas and equipment; code and perform inventory tasks; record information such as the number of products tested, packaged, and shipped; tabulate responses, meter readings, and ask basic pre-developed questions for surveys; note dates and times of product production and work operations.
  • Receive, sort, distribute, count, and mark materials, documents, tools, and equipment; verify amounts, account numbers, and record information in manual and automated files; maintain and process records.
  • Spray and cut brush, weeds, grasses, and vegetation according to instruction; utilize small power or manual saws to remove shrubs and lawn tractors, light trucks, power machinery, and self-propelled equipment to fertilize, spray, and cut foliage; move and load trimmed or fallen trees and other shrubbery onto trucks or other equipment.
  • Shovel asphalt, sand, and materials to repair and maintain roadways; dig ditches and clean culverts and catch basins; pick up refuse.
  • Assist with basic building repairs, carpentry, and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment; report all defective equipment.
  • Flag, direct, and coordinate traffic movement.
  • Monitor and investigate vector breeding sites and public health pest issues; follow up on citizen complaints.
  • Mix and apply chemicals, paints, solvents, and sprays in accordance with policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Perform the more routine duties as assigned with increasing independence.
  • Decisions made or actions taken require higher-level review and work is checked for progress and reviewed for quality and compliance to policy and procedures.
  • Typically, incumbents may use the entry level to obtain the proficiencies to qualify at the next level in the classification series.
  • Receive general supervision from manager or staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Laborer

Training and experience for entry level, trades classifications are typically equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and up to one (1) year of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 0-1 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
