Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Develop educational programs in early childhood development for Librarians; work with parents at parenting classes; contact and visit care centers; advise providers on available library materials and resources.
  • Maintain materials, resources, and collections suitable for use by needs; participate in committees and book list preparations relevant to parenting and early childhood; make recommendations to committees regarding materials and resources purchases; evaluate and update book sets for age or interest level; maintain database of materials and book collections; acquire gifts and donated materials; purchase materials from gift funds; work on fundraising opportunities; assist in developing and overseeing grants.
  • Deliver library materials and services to patrons with barriers to accessing the library; provide literacy programming, information, and support to adults learning English, native English speakers improving their reading, and adults seeking to attain citizenship and GED certificates.
  • Organize and host workshops and other programs; secure speakers, reserve locations, register participants, and create program displays and bibliographies.
  • Compose correspondence and write reports; prepare information and data for moderately complex statistical reports; promote programs with radio interviews and television appearances.
  • Recruit, schedule, train, and mentor volunteers; maintain a safe and orderly environment; handle issues and investigate complaints associated with special populations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Library Outreach Specialist

Training and experience for journey level, professional classifications are typically equivalent to a bachelor's degree and one (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 5-8 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
