Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Perform patient triage, assessments, and health screenings; interview patients to collect health and social history information; obtain vitals; make observations about general health conditions; provide information to patients regarding health maintenance, disease prevention, options, and available services; respond to questions concerning health conditions.
  • Evaluate and treat patients according to protocols; prepare patients for exams and procedures; administer prescribed tests such as audiograms, vision screenings, EKGs, and phlebotomy; collect specimens; complete nurse standing orders as assigned; counsel patients regarding communicable diseases and test results.
  • Under medical professional direction, perform treatments such as cleaning and dressing wounds, irrigating ears, and removing sutures; perform catheterizations; order labs; administer fluoride treatments, IV and other medications, immunizations, and injections.
  • Review patient cases and seek expertise from other medical professionals; develop and implement nursing diagnosis care plans for patients; evaluate patient responses to nursing interventions and progress toward desired outcomes.
  • Make referrals to appropriate social or medical agencies; chart treatment records and monitor results.
  • Prepare, stock, and clean examination rooms; order materials and supplies, such as immunizations and medications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Receive occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise.
  • Fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit.
  • Work is reviewed based on compliance, appropriateness, and effectiveness in meeting goals and deadlines.
  • Receive general supervision from manager or staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Licensed Community Practical Nurse

Training and experience for this journey level, technical classification is completion of an Oregon State Board of Nursing approved program at the certificate level or higher and a license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.

REQUIRED TRAINING, LICENSES, AND/OR CERTIFICATES:

  • License to practice as a practical nurse as outlined by Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS) 678.021 and Oregon Administrative Rule (OAR) 851-031-0015.
  • CPR certification required.
