Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Assist physicians and providers in preliminary patient screenings of patients and conducting health examinations; record height and weight, and take blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration and similar vital signs; instruct patients on proper collection of laboratory samples; process and perform lab tests, such as urine analysis, lead, pregnancy, rapid strep, glucose and hemoglobin tests.
  • Collect clinical assessment data from patients and assist with determining appropriate action; under provider direction, administer immunizations and injections; administer prescribed tests, such as audiograms, vision screenings and EKG's; perform phlebotomy and venipuncture.
  • Provide information to patients concerning health maintenance, disease prevention, options and services available; conduct patient education and instruction on selected health topics, as directed.
  • Document in the medical record all patient activity and contact; complete referral paperwork and assist patients in scheduling additional medical tests or appointments; maintain and reconcile various logs and record keeping; complete and mail test result forms and other patient documents; transmit new and refill prescription orders.
  • Prepare, stock and clean exam rooms; set up exam rooms for procedures; clean and sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Decisions made or actions taken require higher-level review and work is checked for progress and reviewed for quality and compliance to policy and procedures.
  • Typically, incumbents may use the entry level to obtain the proficiencies to qualify at the next level in the classification series.
  • Receive general supervision from manager or staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Medical Assistant

Training and experience for entry level, technical classifications are typically equivalent to an associate's degree and up to one (1) year of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.  (Equivalency 2-3 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.

REQUIRED TRAINING, LICENSES, AND/OR CERTIFICATES:

  • CPR certification is required
  • Medical Assistant certification
