This is a standalone job profile and is not part of a series. Positions in this job profile provide routine nursing care and medication administration to patients in various settings, including jails.

Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Administer prescribed routine medications to inmates and clients as assigned by nursing staff; stock, prepare, and administer medications and supplies in correctional medical areas; verify, identify, and record all medications used by patients; coordinate with security staff for timing of medication interventions and rounds; maintain a sufficient drug inventory.
  • Complete patient health history; assist with physical examinations; collect and record physical information such as height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration, and other vital signs; complete pain scale with patients; collect specimens as required.
  • Consult with Nurses or Nursing Supervisor for current medication and physical status of patients; implement treatments or special procedures as directed by a Nurse or Physician; perform prescribed tests, vision screenings, EKGs, and nebulizer treatments.
  • Record, review, and track medical records and health data; maintain client confidentiality; document medical care and follow-up; transmit inmate and patient information to healthcare staff; report routine and unexpected findings from examinations, patient complaints and history, and medical rounds.
  • Help patients understand basic health information to manage their healthcare needs; provide information to patients about health maintenance and disease prevention; observe self-care routines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Medication Aide (CNA)

  • Entry level

  • Perform the more routine duties as assigned with increasing independence.
  • Decisions made or actions taken require higher-level review and work is checked for progress and reviewed for quality and compliance to policy and procedures.
  • Typically, incumbents may use the entry level to obtain the proficiencies to qualify at the next level in the classification series.
  • Receive general supervision from manager or staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Medication Aide (CNA)

Training and experience for entry level, technical classifications are typically equivalent to an associate's degree and up to one (1) year of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 2-3 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.

REQUIRED TRAINING, LICENSES, AND/OR CERTIFICATES:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in the State of Oregon.
  • Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certificate in the State of Oregon.
  • CPR certification required.
