This is a standalone job profile and is not part of a series. Positions in this job profile provide technical support to Pharmacists in the processing of prescriptions and maintenance of the pharmacy.

Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Gather patient information to prepare prescriptions; enter prescription and patient information into system; complete patient encounter forms; answer phones and receive refill requests from patients and staff; file written prescription forms after prescriptions are dispensed.
  • Prepare prescriptions for pharmacist verification by counting or pouring medications, non-sterile compounding, manual or automated adherence packing, and labeling containers.
  • Call third-party insurers for claim rejections, clarification of payments; complete reports and perform online billing procedures.
  • Order drugs and supplies from wholesaler and county warehouse; receive, check in and stock shelves with drugs and supplies; check stock for outdated medications and process them for return to vendor; process order errors; monitor refrigerated items for proper temperature.
  • Respond to questions from staff and patients that do not require a Pharmacist's professional expertise or judgment; review and analyze patient profiles for coverage notes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Decisions made or actions taken require higher-level review and work is checked for progress and reviewed for quality and compliance to policy and procedures.
  • Typically, incumbents may use the entry level to obtain the proficiencies to qualify at the next level in the classification series.
  • Receive general supervision from manager or staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Pharmacy Technician

Training and experience for entry level, technical classifications are typically equivalent to an associate's degree and up to one (1) year of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.  (Equivalency 2-3 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and /or additional training, licenses, or certificates.

REQUIRED TRAINING, LICENSES, AND/OR CERTIFICATES:

  • Pharmacy Technician License from the State of Oregon.
