Job description
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Participate in developing policies, procedures and guidelines; prepare, review and update transportation elements of various plans focusing on bicycle, pedestrian and related initiatives.
- Develop and administer bicycle and pedestrian systems, capital projects and budgets; prepare grant and funding applications and intergovernmental agreements.
- Prepare or oversee the preparation of environmental studies and assessments; perform field inspections; review land use applications; evaluate traffic and transportation system impacts of new developments.
- Recommend transportation requirements for development of system standards and guidelines to stakeholders; research and analyze transportation data and forecasts future conditions.
- Coordinate project development by preparing memoranda, construction agreements, permits and technical studies and reports; oversee the selection of and work performed by consultants.
- Provide guidance to other departments, the general public and outside agencies; represent the county to the public, elected officials, other agencies, governments and organizations including making presentations, participating in meetings and conducting community outreach; act as representative on committees, interagency task forces and special projects; investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.
Transportation Planning Specialist
Training and experience for advanced level, professional classifications are typically equivalent to a bachelor's degree and three (3) to six (6) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 7-10 years of qualifying training and/or experience).
Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
