Adults in custody test positive for COVID-19

December 23, 2020

Multnomah County is closely following public health guidance to minimize the risk of COVID transmission to everyone in corrections facilities.

On Dec. 21,  Corrections Health notified the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office that an adult in custody at the Inverness Jail had a positive COVID-19 test result. The adult is isolated and receiving care until they are considered no longer contagious. The affected housing unit remains on quarantine. All individuals in that unit were tested for COVID-19 on Dec. 22. As of Dec. 23, an additional adult in custody tested positive, for a total of two adults in custody at Inverness.

The unit will be retested next week per public health recommendations.

When a case is identified, plans for rapid testing, isolation and quarantine are developed in direct consultation with the Multnomah County communicable disease investigations team and Health Officer. Public health officials are performing detailed contact tracing per established protocols.

Corrections Health employees follow all Multnomah County Health Department recommendations including wearing face coverings, maintaining social distancing and frequent handwashing.  Appropriate personal protective equipment is used for clinical encounters.  Each employee performs a temperature check and attests to a lack of symptoms and COVID exposure prior to each work shift.
