Wade Sadler, the Business Operations manager at Multnomah County Animal Services, has been named interim director. He replaces Jackie Rose, who has accepted a position as director of Ventura County (Calif.) Animal Services. Rose leaves the County April 12.
Kim Peoples, director of the Department of Community Services, said he is working closely with Sadler, who will lead the agency while the County undertakes a national recruitment for the top position.
“Jackie has made many positive contributions to the organization, community and the animals under our care,’’ Peoples said. “We know that the agency is in good hands with Wade during this transition.”
As Business Operations Manager, Sadler oversees the Client Services, Communications, and Animal Health workgroups at Animal Services. With the agency since August 2015, he is well-versed in his new duties and responsibilities as interim director.
Sadler has over 20 years of operations management experience working with the public in the local community and is a veteran Sergeant of the United States Marine Corps. He has championed programs such as a partnership with Good Neighbor Vet to offer free rabies vaccines with license renewals, and low-cost veterinary services at the shelter on Saturdays, and instituted practices and programs to remove barriers for homeless and low-income community members reclaiming their lost pets.
Multnomah County’s Troutdale animal shelter is the only open-door shelter in the Portland region for stray animals. The director oversees Animal Services’ $10.5 million budget, 73 employees and more than 400 volunteers.
