April 21 open house offers update on new courthouse design

April 6, 2016

Central Courthouse rendering The public is invited to an open house on Thursday, April 21 from 4 – 6 p.m. to learn about the design for the new Multnomah County Central Courthouse.  The event will be in the Main Jury Room (#130) of the existing courthouse at 1021 SW 4th Avenue in Portland.

Members of the project team from the county and SRG Partnership architects will be on hand to share the latest design drawings for the courthouse that will be built at the west end of the Hawthorne Bridge, starting in 2017. The event will have a drop-in format with information displays and an opportunity for visitors to ask questions of the project team.

The project is in the design phase with a review by the Portland Design Commission scheduled later this year.

The event will include displays on:

  • Why a new courthouse is needed
  • Plans for the new building, including the latest graphics
  • How public input has shaped the design
  • The construction schedule and plan

The public will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed design at the open house and online. The displays and comment form will be posted online April 22. Visit /central-courthouse for more information about the project.

The courthouse is on the downtown transit mall and served by many bus and MAX lines.  Attendees with special needs, such as translation assistance, should call 503-209-4111 at least 48 hours in advance.
