The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing — all virtual — at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23, to appoint a replacement to fill the term of District 47 State Representative Diego Hernandez who resigned, effective March 15.
The briefing will be accessible to the public via YouTube at 10:00 a.m. at this link. To listen on your phone dial: +1-415-655-0001 and enter access code 145 491 1525 when prompted. The agenda is here.
The State Elections Division declared the position vacant, allowing the Multnomah County Democratic Party to call a meeting where Precinct Committeepersons had the opportunity to vote on a list of 3 to 5 names of potential candidates to fill the vacant position.
District 47 is located entirely in Multnomah County in East Portland between Interstate 205 and Rockwood so it involves only the Multnomah County Democrats and the Multnomah County Commission.
The Democratic Party of Oregon on March 15 asked the County Commission consider these three candidates:
-
Andrea Valderrama
-
Adrienne Enghouse
-
Robin Castro
At a hearing by the Board of Commissioners on March 23, candidates will make opening statements and answer questions from county commissioners. There will be an opportunity for public comment before commissioners vote to select a replacement at the meeting. The replacement will serve through the end of 2022.
People who want to testify at the hearing must sign up by 4 p.m. March 22 through our public testimony form d on the board clerks' website.
