Multnomah County Animal Services Holding Waived-Fee Olympic Cat Adoption Special from August 19 - 21

August 16, 2016

(Troutdale, OR) -  Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS) asks the community to carry the torch for cats this weekend by spreading the word about the weekend-long Olympic Cat Adoption special which will waive adoption fees for all cats 6 months and older.

WHAT:  Adoption fees are waived for all cats 6 months and older.

WHO:  Multnomah County Animal Services.

WHERE:  The shelter is located at 1700 Columbia River Hwy, Troutdale, OR 97060.

WHEN:  Friday, August 19 until Sunday, August 21.  The shelter is open from noon - 7 pm on Friday, and 11 am until 4:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

WHY: To send adoptable cats to good homes during the peak of kitten season.

“Our community has made a huge difference by raising the save-rate of animals at MCAS to a record-breaking 92% for dogs and cats- never before achieved by an open-admission county shelter,” said Jackie Rose, Director of MCAS. “We are sending out the call for another feat- help this weekend by providing a loving home to an adult cat who has been patiently waiting for a forever family.  Adult cats have a harder time finding homes when there are more kittens available for adoption.  Our hope is that the Olympic Cat Adoption Special will give them the edge to find the right homes this weekend.  Please spread the word that MCAS is waiving adoption fees for all cats six months and older.”

The Olympic Cat Adoption Special waives the $50 adoption fee normally charged for cats 6 months and older.  Adoptions include: a spay & neuter surgery (performed prior to adoption), the first set of vaccinations including rabies, a health exam at the shelter, a follow-up health exam at a vet clinic, a microchip and registration, and an FeLV/FIV test.  The adoption does not include the cost of licensing for Multnomah County residents, which ranges from $12 for a one year license to $24 for a three year license, due at the time of adoption.  All applicants will go through the regular adoption process to make sure homes and animals are well matched to each other.
