November 21, 2017 (Troutdale, OR) - Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS) asks the community to help send every pet home for the holidays by spreading the word about its Days of December Adoption Special. For the fifth year in a row, adoption fees equal the day of the month for all pets seven months and older, from December 1 through the 31. This means that adopters can adopt a dog or a cat for $1 on December 1, $2 on December 2, $3 on December 3, or for $8 on December 8, and so forth. The adoption does not include the cost of licensing for Multnomah County residents, due at the time of adoption. All applicants will go through the regular adoption application, interview, and consultation process to make sure homes and animals are well matched to each other.
WHAT: Adoption fees equal the day of the month for all animals seven months and older, from December 1 through 31. License fees apply for Multnomah County residents.
WHO: Multnomah County Animal Services.
WHERE: The shelter is located at 1700 Columbia River Hwy, Troutdale, OR 97060.
WHEN: From December 1 through the 31. The shelter is open from noon - 7 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 11 am until 2 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The shelter is closed on Wednesdays. There will be one holiday closure where the promotional adoption fee will be unavailable. Multnomah County Animal Services will be OPEN from 11 am to 2 pm on Sunday, December 24, and on Sunday, December 31, and will be CLOSED on Monday, December 25.

Are pets valued less when adoption fees are lowered or waived?
Multnomah County Animal Services is committed to finding good homes for the animals in our care, and recent studies endorsed by the ASPCA confirm that dramatically reducing adoption fees doesn't affect the love or longevity of an adopter’s relationship with their adopted pets.
Can pets be adopted as gifts?
ASPCA research by Dr. Emily Weiss recently found there is no correlation between getting an animal as a gift and an owner's love and attachment to the pet – even if that pet was a surprise gift – and no increased risk of relinquishment for dogs and cats received as gifts.
