Multnomah County Department of Community Justice warns of scam

September 19, 2016

On Friday September 16, 2016, some people on probation or post-prison supervision called officials with the Multnomah County Department of Community Justice (DCJ)  indicating that perpetrator(s) have been calling them and: demanding payment for fines, fees or restitution, asking for personal credit card information and threatening arrest.  This is a scam. Multnomah County employees would never call a client, demand payment and threaten arrest.

Currently, the county is working with the FBI and other local agencies in an investigation.  The Department of Community Justice is in the process of notifying all clients. DCJ and Information Technology Security staff are working to determine how many people have been victimized.

The privacy and security of county data is of utmost importance. Clients who have given out personal credit card information connected to this scam are urged to contact their bank or credit card company immediately.

A hotline has been set up for DCJ clients who may have questions at (503) 988-9280.
