Multnomah County will host the third of four special vaccination clinics Saturday, Feb. 17, to help families catch up on childhood vaccines. The immunization clinic will take place at the David Douglas High School South Building (1500 SE 130th Ave., Portland), from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The County is working with the Multnomah Education Service District and David Douglas School District to offer this free service.
The County’s immunization clinics are available for youth ages 5 to 19. The clinics are free for families, including families whose insurance does not cover immunization; no ID or insurance is needed. Families should call 503-988-8939 to make an appointment, but walk-in visits will be accommodated. Supplies are limited and appointments are strongly encouraged. Visits usually take at least an hour to complete. Language interpreters are available.
Children who do not provide proper immunization documentation when they go to school or childcare on Wednesday, Feb. 21, will be turned away. A final immunization clinic, co-hosted with CareOregon, will be held that day from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the CareOregon Boys & Girls Club Rockwood (454 S.E. 165th Ave., Portland). This clinic will be walk-in only. Vaccines are required by law for all children in schools, preschools and childcare facilities.
Parents would have been sent a letter if their child’s vaccination records are incomplete. School exclusion warnings were sent to about 5,600 families on Feb. 7, 2024. About 108,000 children and students in Multnomah County must meet school immunization requirements each year.
Immunizations are among the most effective and cost-efficient ways to prevent vaccine-preventable disease and protect the public. The following immunizations will be offered: influenza, diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTaP and Tdap), Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), hepatitis A and B, human papillomavirus (HPV), measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), meningococcal, polio, pneumococcal and varicella (chicken pox).
Multnomah County’s year-round immunization clinics
Families can get their child’s shots at their regular health care provider. If a child doesn’t have a regular health care provider or if they can’t get an appointment, families can get them vaccinated at one of the County’s free clinics.
