Multnomah County statement on Governor’s plans to lift restrictions

May 8, 2020

We were encouraged to see the Governor’s announcement on Thursday, May 7 that outlined the seven prerequisites for reopening.

Multnomah County is currently developing a dashboard to identify where we are positioned in each of the criteria. As part of a tri-county region with the most hospital systems, the highest population of vulnerable residents and a major driver of the state’s economy, we know that the timeline for our reopening will be different from more rural areas of the state.

In addition, while some metrics are measured at the county level, others are measured at the regional level which includes Clackamas, Washington, Clatsop, Tillamook and Columbia Counties.

County Chair Deborah Kafoury has been meeting regularly with the Chairs from Clackamas and Washington County. All the county commissioners from Region 1 are meeting with the state Friday, May 8 to discuss the framework. The Chair and her Public Health Emergency leadership team will meet Saturday and convene the mayors of all the cities in Multnomah County, from Portland to Fairview.

Next week we’ll share our dashboard with the public and the media.
