Gun Violence-Impacted Families Behavioral Health Response Team
Many of us have seen or experienced gun violence in our communities. This scary, dangerous and life-threatening event can have lasting mental and physical effects.
Talking to a therapist can help ease trauma symptoms and make it easier to cope.
Services
We offer culturally responsive mental health therapy to treat trauma from gun violence. Our 6 to 12-month program serves young people ages 10-25.
Services are free, and designed to help clients overcome barriers that make it hard to get treatment.
You’ll meet in-person with a trained mental health counselor at a confidential location. Usually at home or school.
For crisis services, call the Behavioral Health Call Center, 503-988-4888. Open 24 hours.
Culturally Specific Providers
Help is best when it comes from someone who understands you and your culture.
- African American
- Latine
- African immigrant or refugee
We serve all populations of youth, and have counselors who speak both English and Spanish.
No Cost
Insurance is not required. You will never receive a bill.
Who Can Get Services
Anyone ages 10-25 who lives in Multnomah County and has been directly impacted by gun violence.
How It Works
Once we receive a referral, we connect the client to community-based services that work for them. We build rapport with them to ensure they feel supported and know all of our services.
If they don’t qualify (or prefer other assistance), we can help them find other appropriate mental health services.
Once enrolled, clients meet weekly with a trained mental health counselor for individual, family or group therapy. Clients will also work closely with others who have lived through a similar experience for support.
Before treatment ends, we work together to create a plan for how to handle symptoms in the future.
