The board recognizes the importance of county structures designed, built, operated and maintained using public funds and public employees by proclaiming May 16 through May 22 “National Public Works Week.”
The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners has proclaimed May 16 through May 22 “National Public Works Week.”
The theme of this year’s National Public Works Week is “Public Works: Above, Below, & All Around You.” If that seems like a reminder, it’s because it probably is; people tend to forget that many of the structures “above, below, & all around” them, supporting public safety, health, and general well-being, are designed, built, operated and maintained using public funds and public employees.
In Multnomah County, public works like bridges and roads tie the county together—literally; imagine Multnomah County without the Sellwood, Hawthorne, Morrison, Burnside, Broadway or Sauvie Island Bridges, or without 297 miles of county-maintained roads. Multnomah County is only able to provide these public works thanks to taypayer funds and the dedicated efforts of its public works professionals, including its engineers, surveyors, technicians, planners, operations and maintenance staff and administrators.
