Graphic says, “Empowering ourselves, Me to We, Enriching our community,” above a logo for the Multnomah County Office of Sustainability.

Many of us have heard of the butterfly effect, watched, and even shared How to Start a Movement, and witnessed how one person kneeling changed protests in sports. We know that one person can make a difference – can that one person be you?

This month, the Office of Sustainability invites you to explore how you can create a ripple effect. Turn "Me" into "We," while you:

What is Ecochallenge and how does it work? Ecochallenge is a digital platform that gamifies behavior change. From October 1 - 31, you’re encouraged to try new sustainable actions and consistently check into the Ecochallenge platform to keep you and your Multnomah County teammates accountable for the actions chosen during the challenge. Join the Multnomah County Ecochallenge team so we can cheer each other on, boost our awareness around intersecting climate and justice issues, acknowledge the topics we need more education about, and measure the collective impact our actions make.

How to participate in the Ecochallenge: Ecochallenge includes actions that range in time, knowledge, and skills required. The actions are in the categories of Community, Energy, Food, Health, Nature, Simplicity, Transportation, Waste, and Water.

Select actions you can try during October (and even beyond!): Start with one thing you’d like to try, and add more to try if it is realistic for your ability.

Get to work: Each day throughout October, log your actions and see your impact add up.

Celebrate! Wow, you did it! Acknowledge and reflect on what you learned, what you tried, and what you completed.
