As Oregon’s largest Federally Qualified Community Health Center, serving more than 53,000 patients annually, Multnomah County Community Health Center is committed to teaching and supporting future pharmacy leaders. Our Postgraduate Year 2 (PGY2) residency program offers two positions for pharmacists who have completed or are in the process of completing a PGY1 residency and are wanting to specialize in ambulatory care.
About the Community Health Center
We are a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) housed within the Multnomah County Health Department.
- We provide primary care, dental, integrated behavioral health, and pharmacy services across 7 primary clinics, 1 HIV Specialty Clinic, 9 student health centers and one mobile clinic throughout Multnomah County in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area.
- We welcome everyone, regardless of insurance status, ability to pay, demographics, or documentation status.
- We provide patient-centered care in a manner that is culturally and linguistically appropriate for each patient.
More than 75% of our clients have incomes below the federal poverty level. 68% of clients identify as part of a racial or ethnic minority population. We serve patients in more than 100 languages/dialects.
Program Overview
PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area.
Upon successful completion of the PGY2 in Ambulatory Care residency, graduates will be prepared to develop and provide culturally and linguistically appropriate ambulatory care services via collaborative practice agreements with a focus on underserved populations.
Residents applying to match with Multnomah County Community Health Center’s program will choose to be based out of either Mid County Health Center or North Portland Health Center for the majority of their training.

How to Apply
Applicants for Multnomah County Community Health Center’s PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency must have completed their education at an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy and must have completed or be in the process of completing an ASHP-accredited PGY1. Applicants must be licensed in Oregon no later than 3 months after the start of the program. Applications must be submitted through PhORCAS and will be considered complete if the following information is included:
- Official transcripts from college of pharmacy
- Curriculum Vitae
- Letter of intent describing the applicant’s interest in Multnomah County Community Health Center’s program
- Recommendations from three reviewers submitted via PhORCAS
Applications are reviewed through ASHP’s PhORCAS. Applicants are required to be registered in the National Matching Service before they will be invited for an interview.

How many residents does the Multnomah County Community Health Center accept?
We accept two residents. Each resident will have their own home site (Mid County Health Center or North Portland Health Center) where they will receive their initial ambulatory care training followed by, and have a dedicated work space. Both of these home sites are associated with a separate match number.
When does the residency year begin?
Residents will begin the second Tuesday in July (7/8/25).
How are resident’s research projects selected?
Selection of projects will take into account organizational goals and restrictions in balance with resident interest. We currently maintain a list of possible projects that a resident may choose from but we also encourage residents to explore previously unconsidered ideas they are passionate about.
What are the service/staffing requirements?
We currently have no staffing requirements for our residents. Our outpatient pharmacy hours of operation overlap closely with clinic hours of operation, in order to maximize clinical learning experiences, the resident will not have responsibilities in our outpatient pharmacies.
