Why did you join the MYC?

Before joining the MYC, I had aspirations to one day contribute to my community in a positive way.  I had very little knowledge about the issues and challenges that my community face on a day-to-day basis.  However, after learning about the MYC and applying, I began to learn about issues that don’t only affect my local community, but also society in general.  Through the MYC I was exposed to the topics of social justice, equity, racial justice, and more.  Having the opportunity to engage and work with my community through the MYC  has challenged and modified my perspective on the world.

What is one goal you have for the next year on the MYC?

My primary goal for this upcoming year on the MYC is to engage the incoming members and to inspire leadership within the group.  I truly believe in the idea of stepping back and leading from behind.  This will be my second year in the MYC, which means that my knowledge and understanding of our work is more concrete.  However, I still have a lot to learn.  I’m excited and committed to begin working again and to learn alongside a group of engaged leaders.
