On Friday, June 17 the NE Latourell Road bridge in the Columbia River Gorge will close for several months as crews begin the initial stages of replacing the deteriorated wooden bridge. Early next week, the contractor on the project will begin tree cutting to provide clearance for construction of the new bridge.
The project will take about five months to complete. There will be posted closure signs and no through access for the duration of construction. Access for neighbors adjacent to the bridge will be from the Historic Columbia River Highway on either side of the bridge.
Granite Construction Co. was awarded the project’s construction contract. The total project cost is $2.7 million. Multnomah County is providing about $900,000 of the funds with the remaining balance coming from the Oregon Department of Transportation.
